Stephen Warnok
THRILLED TO BE HERE!
ROVERS' latest signing Stephen Warnock didn't have to think long and hard over making the switch from Merseyside to Lancashire.
Despite being with the Anfield club since the age of 11, the 25 year-old needed little convincing from manager Mark Hughes to sign for the Ewood Park club on a three and a half year deal for an undisclosed fee.
"It has been a long time waiting it to happen but I'm very pleased to be here," said Warnock exclusively to Rovers.
"I spoke to the manager today and he sold the club to me, though he didn't really have to say much as I was more than happy to come here and play for him, I'm really excited about it."
Warnock could have stayed at Liverpool, the club has supported since a boy, but chose to put his professional footballing career first in making the switch between the two Premiership sides.
"When you grow up supporting Liverpool as a lad and then you get to play for the team it is a great experience and you never expect to leave, but when you are at such a big club like Liverpool you always know at the back of your mind that someday you might have to move on to play regularly.
"So I'm not upset about leaving because I know I'm coming to a fantastic club and I'm going to be given the chance to play and show what I can do."
Impressed with how Rovers performed last season, the Ormskirk lad has kept an eye on the progress of Mark Hughes' side and can't wait to get started with his new team-mates, although Warnock knows that he'll have to earn his place in the starting eleven.
"You look at Blackburn last year and they were fantastic getting into Europe and speaking to the manager again today that is his aim again. That is what I want to be doing, playing in the Premier League and playing European football.
"Blackburn are on a great run at the moment and I understand that it will be a challenge to get in the team, I'm not expecting to come here and walk straight into the team, I know I'm going to have to work hard and prove to the manager why he has bought me."
Not signed in time to be involved in Rovers' league game against Watford, Warnock could be in line to make his debut in the FA Cup against either Luton Town or Queens Park Rangers Saturday lunchtime.
HUGHES ON WARNOCK COUP
MARK Hughes believes Rovers have landed a major coup with the signing of Liverpool left-back Stephen Warnock.
The 25-year-old defender, who has today put pen-to-paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract at Ewood Park, made over 60 appearances for the Anfield club, winning the European Super Cup in August 2005 and receiving a first England call-up three days later.
"He's a guy that has good experience for a young man of his age," said the Rovers boss. "He has Champions League experience and has played a decent amount of Premier League games as well.
"I just like his attitude to the game. He wants to get up to people, to put pressure on people and really he just fits the bill as far as I'm concerned.
"He is naturally left-footed as well which gives us that balance on the left-hand side which we didn't have with Lucas (Neill) being right-footed.
"Liverpool really appreciated the qualities that he has and they weren't too keen on allowing a good young English player to leave their football club. I think that is the reason maybe the deal hasn't been done before."
Meanwhile, on the departure of Lucas Neill to West Ham, the manager added: "We thank Lucas for his efforts because he was fantastic for me in my time here and prior to my tenure here he was a guy that came in and gave everything that he had.
"He took the option to move away which he was well within his rights to do. We thank him for everything he has done for Blackburn Rovers and we move on."

| Liverpoolfc.tv can today confirm that the club have agreed terms with Blackburn Rovers over the sale of Stephen Warnock. | |
| A graduate of the Liverpool Academy, Warnock was handed his chance in the first-team not long after Rafael Benitez arrived at the club and made his debut in the Champions League qualifier in Graz in August 2004. The break into the first team followed an entire season on loan at First Division Coventry City, where he picked up the supporters' Player of the Year award. Everyone at liverpoolfc.tv wishes Stephen all the best for the future. | |

ANDRE UNDERGOSES OP
Oojier

DUO SIGN NEW DEALS
Matt Derbyshire and Paul Gallagher
ROVERS duo Matt Derbyshire and Paul Gallagher have both signed new contracts to see them at the club until the summer of 2010.
The strike duo who have both come through the ranks at the football club have been impressive of late, Derbyshire netting three times in his last four games, whilst Gallagher showed his skill and flair with an excellent goal in the FA Cup victory over Everton two weeks ago.
Boss Mark Hughes was delighted with the news that the pair had signed new contracts: "I thought it was important that we kept them at the club.
"They've shown a real desire to be part of the first team squad and have done exceptionally well when they've been called upon and both of them have made an impact.
"That is what I want from my young players, I want them pushing the more senior players in the squad and that is what they've done.
"We hope that they will continue to develop and continue with the impact that they are having at the moment."
DERBS' DEAL DELIGHTSTRIKER Matt Derbyshire has spoken of his delight at signing a new deal with his boyhood club.
The 20 year-old put pen-to-paper on new contract with Rovers that ties him to the Lancashire club until the summer of 2010.
"Everything is going great, I've been working hard and things are starting to pay off," said the 20 year-old striker.
"It is going superb for me, I've come off the bench a couple of times, I've started a couple of times and I've got a few goals and long may it continue."
The young Rover has burst onto the senior scene with three goals in his last four appearances for Rovers, but will soon face the challenge of a place in the squad increased further as fellow strikers Jason Roberts and Franny Jeffers are close to returning, but Derbyshire is concentrating on his own form rather than worrying about others.
"You tend not to think about the players that are coming back from injury, you've to concentrate on your own game and whatever happens happens," added Derbyshire.
Also signing a new contract with Rovers is fellow striker Paul Gallagher. Both he and Derbyshire have grown up with each other and Matt is pleased that their spell together will be extended further.
"We've known each other since primary school, so to sign for the same amount of years until 2010 is superb."
--CAPTAIN MARVEL
Ryan Nelsen
Andy Todd
"For me as soon as Ryan Nelsen is back he's our captain, he's a credit to his profession, we miss him and the sooner he comes back as captain then great. I'll hand it over. As I'll do for Andy Todd if he comes back.
"Ryan Nelsen is a leader and a great player and when he is back I'll be delighted to give him the captaincy."
--BACK TO HIS BEST
THE return to top form of midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen is one of the key reasons that Rovers have risen up the league to a top half placing according to boss Mark Hughes.
The Norwegian international hit a stunning brace yesterday as Rovers completed a league double over Stuart Pearce's Manchester City with a 3-0 victory at Eastlands.
"I don't think it is of no co-incidence, we've had periods when Morten knows himself he hasn't been playing well," said the Rovers boss.
"But I felt it was always better to stick with him and give him the chance to play his way into form and he has certainly done that of late, he's been excellent.
"He scored two great goals against City, I always felt that if we could get Morten in range of the free-kicks that he is capable of then there was always a chance that he would convert one, and the first goal was a great ball from David Bentley which he did well to get on the end of.
"All-in-all a very pleasing performance from him and the rest of the team."
