Doria to net Vieri
Sampdoria have moved a step closer to signing
Christian Vieri from Monaco, reports in Italy are insisting.
The Italian outfit were linked with a move for the striker last week
and it seems that a deal is on the verge of completion.
Whispers in the peninsula suggest that Vieri has agreed to the move
after holding talks with director general Beppe Marotta.
The two men have drawn up terms for a one-year contract in which
the 33-year-old has accepted a substantial cut in salary.
Vieri will therefore return to Italian football just six months
after leaving for Monaco in the French First Division.
The much-travelled forward quit Milan for the Principality
in a bid to play regular first team football so that he could keep
his World Cup hopes alive.
It did look like a smart move until the veteran picked up
a knee meniscus injury which ruled him out of Germany 2006 contention.
